Entry: It was movie weekend Monday, May 24, 2004

I've been bad about seeing movies, missed a number of them that I was keen on seeing, but this weekend I managed to drag myself away from eve online and went and saw a couple.

Kill Bill Vol.2 (or Vol.2 as it's officially titled) is fantastic.  If you've seen the first one, then this one is a bit differently paced.  The first one was all just big action.  This one is much more a dialogue followed by brief intense action.  There were few genuinely classic tarantino moments up until the final segment with bill but I loved the hong kong film bits especially the Pei Mo sequences.  All in all I loved this movie and didn't have any problem with the change of style/pace compared to the first one.  It's Tarantino... it's not supposed to be consistent or sane.  For all that, I think modern tarantino is not as edgy as he used to be, or maybe it's just that my edges are further out than they used to be.

Then I saw Van Helsing, it's a good fun little movie.  I was amused by the idiots who had brought their young kids to this movie.  It's like 12A children under 12 must be accompanied, but there was a family right behind me with 2 kids who wouldn't have been over 7, probly much less and a baby.  What were they thinking?  the kids ran from the cinema within 15 minutes of the film starting closely followed by the rest of the family.  Anyway, tyhe movie itself... The CGI was blatant but well done, I think movies like this suffer a bit because they stage these huge "stunts" and effects that would be impressive except that they are so obviously 100% CGI segments.  Still good fun and I was intrigued by the level of religious stuff they'd stuck in it.  Dracula himself was wonderfully over played vampire evil bastard.

Other than that, I spent half the weekend mining in eve and got enough stuff to build a new cruiser... am I a geek or what?
