Typing is giving me a headache
So I was reading the web the other day and came across Dvorak info... I'd heard about this alternate keyboard thing before but this time I actually read on to find out exactly what it was all about.
It's baoically a different layout of keys on your keyboard that should result in quicker typing and less hand strain (and I prefer to save my hands for more enjoyable tasks). Before you knew it I tad changed my keyboard locale and prised all the keys off my keyboard and put them back in the wrong places. My typing is currently a lot slower while I learn the new layout but I'm teaching myself to touch type properly as well so it's all good fun.
Enjoying a lazy day today watching rugby this morning (All Blacks thrashed the Lions \o/) and live 8 on the video projector... life is all good.

On a sunny friday morning
Just wanted to tell the world that life is good. It's not winter any more, it's sunny outside, england really is a nice place to be ;-)
I have taken to walking to/from work, initially this was maybe a little motivated by the opportunity of not paying for transport, but it's amazing how your view and attitude towards a city changes when you wander through it actually taking in the sites rather than spending all your time on trains and the underground. I found the same thing near the end of last year when I had taken to walking through/around Hyde park to get to work, but that was in winter which made it a significantly less appealing option. I walked through Battersea park yesterday and it's a really nice area. A lot of parks in london are effectively large fields with a few things around the edges but Battersea has lots of little hidden areas and winding paths through the trees... very nice.
Anyway, it's the start of another working day and I better get on with it.

Go to the movies, it's good for the soul
So last night I got down to the cinema, saw 2 movies, The Amttyville Horror which was in equal parts totally predictable and crap, but at the same time very enjoyable if you like that kind of thing. There were some bits of the movie that were just so cliched that I couldn't help laughing out loud.
Then I saw Sahara, now that movie is just plain fun. Don't expect rocket science or a plot that is too sensible, just enjoy watching people running around blowing stuff up. Also saw a number of very tasty looking trailers. There's the requisite Star Wars III "the saga is complete" which will be exactly what I expect so should be a little fun, then a trailer for War of the Worlds, now this really gets me going, I am a big fan of the cheesy musical version and the narators voice over for one version of this trailer was the business.
Other than that, life's all good really, I'm getting fit again, loseing a little weight, walking to work and stuff... My new habit is World of Warcraft which to be honest is very linear and nothing like Eve-online as far as MMORPG goes but it's pretty fun at the moment.
Gotta run, spotya

So, my inactivity has reached a new all time low... No posts since last July.
2004 has been a very "interesting" year and hopefully 2005 will be a bit more of a step forwards.
At the end of January I'm gonna get myself a new flat and with it a new approach to life, who knows I might even start doing some smartphone development again... I had a good christmas with some "unussual" people, drank too much, ate too much and I'm looking for more of the same for new years.
Everyone finish off your year on a high and I'll catcha in the next one.

I just flew in from edinburgh and boy are my arms tired
Well, we got a flat in Edinburgh now and went up there in a rental car at the weekend, 850 miles later and I'm back in London.
Slowly sorting out all the details, like phone lines and ADSL. Still not quite sure when I'll get up there myself as I'm staying in London until I can sort out a new job. All good fun. Found a nice little local pub in Leith on Saturday afternoon and saw the Wimbledon womens final which was cool. Now it's back to work for a little sleep.

Well, everythings coming together for my move up to sunny Edinburgh. Now all I need to do is find a new job up there cos otherwise the commute is gonna kill me.
We've got a flat down in Leith in a nice new building so that should keep the rain off. My main concern is that if I'm without broadband for any time I won't be able to play eve every day....

I've been bad about seeing movies, missed a number of them that I was keen on seeing, but this weekend I managed to drag myself away from eve online and went and saw a couple.
Kill Bill Vol.2 (or Vol.2 as it's officially titled) is fantastic. If you've seen the first one, then this one is a bit differently paced. The first one was all just big action. This one is much more a dialogue followed by brief intense action. There were few genuinely classic tarantino moments up until the final segment with bill but I loved the hong kong film bits especially the Pei Mo sequences. All in all I loved this movie and didn't have any problem with the change of style/pace compared to the first one. It's Tarantino... it's not supposed to be consistent or sane. For all that, I think modern tarantino is not as edgy as he used to be, or maybe it's just that my edges are further out than they used to be.
Then I saw Van Helsing, it's a good fun little movie. I was amused by the idiots who had brought their young kids to this movie. It's like 12A children under 12 must be accompanied, but there was a family right behind me with 2 kids who wouldn't have been over 7, probly much less and a baby. What were they thinking? the kids ran from the cinema within 15 minutes of the film starting closely followed by the rest of the family. Anyway, tyhe movie itself... The CGI was blatant but well done, I think movies like this suffer a bit because they stage these huge "stunts" and effects that would be impressive except that they are so obviously 100% CGI segments. Still good fun and I was intrigued by the level of religious stuff they'd stuck in it. Dracula himself was wonderfully over played vampire evil bastard.
Other than that, I spent half the weekend mining in eve and got enough stuff to build a new cruiser... am I a geek or what?

Well... it's been another long period of no updates
But my excuses are... I've bought a new computer and been building that. It's delayed any smartphone work I was doing as I had to reinstall all the environments etc.
More importantly, my new pc has a good graphics card (specifically it's an Athlon 64 3000+ with 1Gb 400Mhz DDR memory, 200Gb Harddrive, ATI Radeon 9600 XT/TVR) so that means I can play games again \o/.
My new addiction is http://www.eve-online.com
it's massively multiplayer, and it's kindof like elite on a huge amount of drugs. You mine, you trade, you shoot stuff. It's an interesting balance, it's very much a strategic game rather than an actioner, where you'll right click a target and say lock, choose to keep it at 15km away and shoot it with lasers 1-3. Rather than steering your ship and pulling the trigger. But while being strategic, in general it doesn't have the micromanagement that annoys me with a lot of strategic games. Check it out... it costs about £10/month to play.

Once again into the breach
Well, I haven't posted anything for a while (again)....
Just got back from an exciting weekend in the Isle of Wight, which was kinda chilled and reasonably relaxed. Finally got Surreal Start stabalised last week and it was a pleasant surprise last night to find that it didn't have any major new bugs reported, except for a few issues with phones not running english. \o/
Tonight I really need to patch in some new code and publish it on handango and see if I can get a few more sales happening.
So I'm back at work, facing down another week (at least it's a short one) and as usual I need to consider my life and decide what I should do with it next. I'm tempted to take it out for a sound laundering.
Better get back to work, but here's a little sculpture to show that I'm not completely without art.

Yikes, harrassment from the shoutbox
Nullify: How about updating SidPlay for subtunes
Sounds like a good idea... I'm using a standard sidplay engine I ported so I presume it supports them in some way. I'll have to investigate, but it's certainly not my top priority.
NikLP: Stylesheet is WACKY
Well, I know very little that's useful about HTML/CSS/The Web :) I just used the standard blogdrive templates and then hacked them up a little (but not much). A lot of the wackiness might be due to the way they kind of plug various chunks of html into the page... Works nice at 1024x768 and higher, I imagine if it's all nasty and unreadable it might be cos your res is lower? To be honest, for a crappy blog I'm probly not gonna do anything about any of this.
Beefy: Why don't you come north and drink
I know, I'm a bad person. I MUST come north and I MUST drink more beer. It's on the list.
steverae: Pocket Clive on the E200
I've been lazy and sick. I'm gonna have a look at this this weekend. It should be a faily quick fix, just a function that goes tits up or something that I have to track down. Keep your eye on the sky and you'll see it coming.
